For more than four decades, Corrie Kastubi has dedicated her life to celebrating Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage through fashion. Recognized as one of the country’s most respected designers, she has built a remarkable career by transforming traditional Indonesian textiles into contemporary works of wearable art while remaining deeply committed to sustainability, craftsmanship, and cultural preservation.
Since beginning her professional journey in 1979, Corrie has championed the beauty of Indonesian wastra—including Batik, Songket, Tenun, and many other traditional textiles that reflect the diversity of the Indonesian archipelago. Educated at the Lucie Clayton School of Dressmaking in London, she combines international design expertise with a profound respect for Indonesia’s centuries-old textile traditions.
At the heart of her creative philosophy is “Heritage to Now,” a concept that demonstrates how traditional craftsmanship can remain relevant in the modern world. Rather than treating heritage as something to preserve only in museums, Corrie transforms it into elegant contemporary fashion that speaks to new generations while honoring the artisans who keep these traditions alive.
One of the defining characteristics of her work is her commitment to zero-waste design. By carefully preserving the integrity of handcrafted fabrics and minimizing unnecessary cutting, she creates garments that respect both the artistry of the textile and the environment. Every collection reflects the belief that luxury fashion and sustainability should go hand in hand.
Corrie’s vision extends far beyond the runway. Through her Sustainable Fashion Map, she actively promotes the use of Indonesian natural fibers (Serat Alam) and natural dyes (Pewarna Alam) sourced responsibly from communities across Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, and Papua. Her work highlights not only the beauty of Indonesia’s natural resources but also the importance of supporting local artisans, preserving traditional knowledge, and strengthening sustainable livelihoods.
Her influence on Indonesia’s fashion industry reaches well beyond her collections. As a Co-Founder of the Indonesian Fashion Designers Association (APPMI) and a former member of IPMI, Corrie has helped shape the country’s fashion landscape while mentoring designers and promoting Indonesian craftsmanship on both national and international stages.
Throughout her career, she has remained actively involved with organizations dedicated to cultural preservation, women’s empowerment, sustainable textiles, and community development. Her collaborations with the Indonesian Fiber Council (Dewan Serat Indonesia) and her participation in initiatives such as “From Farm to Fashion” continue to demonstrate her commitment to building a more sustainable future for the fashion industry.
Corrie Kastubi’s work represents more than beautiful garments—it tells the story of Indonesia. Every textile, every handwoven fabric, and every carefully crafted silhouette reflects the nation’s extraordinary cultural diversity and the enduring skills of its artisans. By combining heritage with innovation, she has become an ambassador for Indonesian fashion and an inspiration to designers who believe that creativity can preserve culture while protecting the planet.
Her journey is a testament to the idea that fashion is more than style—it is identity, heritage, responsibility, and a bridge between generations. Through her lifelong dedication, Corrie Kastubi continues to prove that Indonesia’s textile traditions are not simply part of its history—they are an essential part of its future.

BATIK KOMAR -INDONESIA
Indonesia’s rich textile heritage will take center stage at the World Fashion Exhibition Times Square 2026 with the distinctive work of Batik Komar, a renowned Indonesian batik house based in Bandung, West Java.
Founded in 1998 by Dr. H. Komarudin Kudiya together with Hj. Nuryanti Widya, Batik Komar has developed a unique identity by bringing together the cultural heritage of traditional Cirebon batik and contemporary design.
The house was born from Komarudin Kudiya’s deep connection with batik, inherited from his family’s traditional batik-making background in Trusmi, Cirebon.
Batik Komar is dedicated to preserving the techniques and cultural values of Indonesian batik while continuously exploring new artistic possibilities. Its creative approach incorporates traditional hand-drawn and stamped batik techniques with innovative motifs, compositions, colors and contemporary visual concepts.ati
The house has developed an extensive archive of more than 10,000 batik sketches, together with a collection of more than 4,000 traditional batik stamps representing decorative traditions from across Indonesia. More than 150 batik designs have also been registered for copyright protection.
This combination of research, craftsmanship and experimentation has allowed Batik Komar to create designs that respect Indonesia’s cultural identity while responding to the language of modern fashion.
The work of Komarudin Kudiya has been presented internationally through exhibitions and demonstrations in countries including Malaysia, Germany, Thailand, Japan and the United States. His experience also includes recognition in Indonesian and international batik design competitions.
His academic background in design has further contributed to an approach in which batik is viewed not only as a traditional textile craft, but also as an evolving field of artistic and design research. He completed postgraduate and doctoral studies in design at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
Batik Komar continues to explore ways of making Indonesian batik relevant to contemporary audiences. Its philosophy emphasizes the creation of new motifs while maintaining the essence of traditional batik, opening possibilities for batik to become part of modern everyday fashion as well as formal and artistic presentations.
At World Fashion Exhibition Times Square 2026, Batik Komar represents Indonesia through a fashion language in which heritage, craftsmanship, creativity and contemporary design come together.
From the traditional motifs of Cirebon to innovative contemporary interpretations, Batik Komar demonstrates how Indonesia’s textile heritage can continue to evolve and reach new international audiences.

KaIND brings a distinctive Indonesian perspective to the international fashion scene, presenting a creative vision rooted in identity, contemporary aesthetics and the extraordinary cultural diversity of Indonesia.
The brand reflects a new generation of Indonesian fashion that embraces its heritage while looking confidently toward the future.
At the heart of KaIND is the development of Indonesian handwoven textiles made from natural fibres. Working with materials such as ramie, eri silk, pineapple fibre, and locally sourced cotton, KaIND explores how Indonesia’s textile heritage can evolve into a contemporary and relevant design language.
The textiles are developed through handweaving techniques, combining the character of natural fibres with modern structures, textures, and material experimentation.
These fabrics then become the foundation of KaIND’s fashion collections, where thoughtful silhouettes and understated details allow the material itself to take centre stage.
For KaIND, heritage is not simply a visual reference. It lives within the fibre, the weaving process, the craftsmanship, and the people behind each textile, reinterpreted for contemporary fashion and a wider global market.
For KaIND, fashion goes beyond clothing. It becomes a means of communicating personality, culture and creative expression. Each design contributes to a visual narrative in which materials, textures, shapes and carefully considered details work together to create a strong and recognizable identity.
The participation of KaIND in World Fashion Exhibition 2026 in Times Square represents an opportunity to bring Indonesian creativity to one of the world's most recognizable international locations.
New York provides a unique setting in which different cultures, design philosophies and fashion traditions can meet and engage with a global audience.
KaIND is part of an increasingly international Indonesian fashion movement that demonstrates how cultural heritage can become a source of contemporary innovation.
Rather than simply looking to the past, the brand transforms cultural inspiration into a modern fashion language capable of communicating across borders.
At World Fashion Exhibition 2026, KaIND joins designers, brands and fashion talents from different countries in a celebration of creativity, diversity and international collaboration.
Its presence highlights the important role of Indonesian fashion within the broader global fashion landscape and introduces audiences in New York to a distinctive creative perspective from Indonesia.
Through its participation in World Fashion Exhibition 2026, KaIND presents a vision of Indonesian fashion that is contemporary, expressive and culturally connected. From Indonesia to Times Square, the brand becomes part of a global celebration where fashion serves as a bridge between cultures, ideas and creative identities.
