BRUNEI DARUSSALAM Farhanna Pura & NA FORRÉR: Bringing Brunei’s Heritage Into the Future of Fashion

From the rich textile traditions of Brunei Darussalam to the bright lights of Times Square, Farhanna Pura has spent more than a decade creating a distinctive fashion language that connects heritage, modernity and the confident spirit of the contemporary woman.

In October 2026, the founder and creative force behind NA FORRÉR will bring that vision to New York City as the Official Representative of Brunei Darussalam at World Fashion Exhibition® Times Square 2026, joining designers and cultural representatives from around the world in an international celebration of fashion, sustainability, heritage and humanity

For Farhanna, the journey is not simply about taking Bruneian fashion onto an international stage.

It is about showing how cultural heritage can evolve without losing its identity.

A BRAND BORN FROM A LOVE OF FASHION

Farhanna Pura launched NA FORRÉR in 2010, following her studies in Marketing at the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom.

Her path into fashion was unconventional. Rather than following a traditional fashion-school route, Farhanna developed her creative vision through observation, experience and an instinctive understanding of how clothing can influence the way women feel and present themselves.

Her professional experience in change management exposed her to the world of corporate professionals and the language of power dressing. At the same time, her early fascination with 1990s pop culture, major cities and the individuality of the Spice Girls helped shape her belief that fashion could be both expressive and empowering.

Those influences became the foundation of NA FORRÉR.

Today, the Bruneian demi-couture label is designed for what Farhanna describes as the modern muse: a woman who appreciates art, individuality and the luxury of tailored clothing while embracing both femininity and strength.

WHERE HERITAGE MEETS THE CITY

At the heart of NA FORRÉR is a dialogue between cultures.

Farhanna draws deeply from Bruneian Malay and Chinese heritage, while simultaneously looking toward the energy of contemporary cities and the changing role of women.

One of the most distinctive elements of her work has been her use of Songket, the traditional Malay woven brocade associated with ceremony, prestige and cultural heritage.

Rather than treating Songket as something belonging exclusively to traditional dress, Farhanna places it within contemporary silhouettes, tailoring and modern womenswear.

The result is a meeting point between the old and the new.

Traditional textile.

Contemporary structure.

Cultural memory.

Modern confidence.

This approach has become one of the signatures of NA FORRÉR, helping the label gain attention beyond Brunei.

THE POWER OF THE MODERN WOMAN

For Farhanna Pura, fashion has always been connected to women and empowerment.

Her designs translate the idea of “Girl Power” into strong silhouettes, confident tailoring and contemporary styling.

The clothes are designed not simply to dress a woman, but to communicate something about her.

Strength.

Confidence.

Individuality.

Elegance.

And the freedom to define her own identity.

This philosophy was particularly visible in Farhanna's participation in the Commonwealth Fashion Exchange, where NA FORRÉR represented Brunei in a collaboration with Singaporean artisans Lully Selb.

The resulting creation explored the evolution of the modern Malay woman, combining Bruneian Songket with contemporary tailoring and hand-painted silk. The work was subsequently exhibited at Buckingham Palace and the Australian High Commission in London.

It was a powerful example of how Farhanna approaches heritage: not as something static, but as something capable of transformation.

SLOW FASHION, TAILORING AND INDIVIDUALITY

NA FORRÉR's philosophy is also closely connected to the principles of slow fashion.

The label has built its identity around exclusivity, tailoring and garments designed with longevity and versatility in mind.

Its made-to-measure approach allows clothing to respond to the individual rather than forcing the individual to adapt to mass-produced fashion.

This philosophy has helped distinguish NA FORRÉR in a fashion industry increasingly searching for alternatives to disposable trends.

For Farhanna, luxury is not simply about appearance.

It is about craftsmanship, fit, individuality and the relationship between the garment and the woman wearing it.

FROM BRUNEI TO THE WORLD

Farhanna's journey has already taken NA FORRÉR beyond the borders of Brunei.

The brand has presented collections internationally, including appearances in London, Kuala Lumpur, Qatar and Japan, while incorporating Bruneian cultural references into contemporary fashion.

The label's international development has demonstrated that a fashion brand rooted in a relatively small country can create a distinctive identity by embracing, rather than hiding, its cultural origins.

Farhanna's work is therefore part of a broader movement in which designers from Asia are presenting their own heritage on their own terms.

Brunei is not simply the location of NA FORRÉR.

It is part of its creative vocabulary.

FASHION AS CULTURAL DIPLOMACY

A garment can sometimes communicate what words cannot.

A textile can reveal a country's history.

A silhouette can express changing social values.

A pattern can introduce an audience to a culture they may never have encountered before.

This is one of the reasons Farhanna Pura's work is particularly suited to an international platform such as World Fashion Exhibition®.

Her designs carry elements of Brunei's cultural identity while remaining accessible to a contemporary global audience.

The traditional and the modern are not presented as opposites.

They become part of the same conversation.

BRUNEI ARRIVES IN TIMES SQUARE

That conversation will reach one of the world's most recognizable crossroads on October 9, 2026, when Farhanna Pura represents Brunei Darussalam at World Fashion Exhibition® Times Square 2026.

The event, presented within the wider Fashion Week Brooklyn program, will bring together designers representing more than 70 countries and showcase sustainable eco-couture in one of New York City's most iconic public spaces.

World Fashion Exhibition® places fashion within a wider mission of sustainability, cultural exchange and humanitarian action. Its 2026 initiative, “Give Your Light to the World – One Drop, One Life,” connects the international fashion community with efforts supporting access to safe drinking water and the empowerment of women and children in Africa.

For Farhanna, the Times Square presentation therefore represents more than a runway appearance.

It is an opportunity to place Brunei's creative identity within a global conversation about what fashion can become.

A NEW CHAPTER FOR NA FORRÉR

From its beginnings in Brunei in 2010 to international exhibitions and collaborations, NA FORRÉR has developed a clear and recognizable philosophy.

Tradition should not be abandoned in the pursuit of modernity.

It should be reimagined.

Songket can move beyond ceremony and become contemporary couture.

Bruneian heritage can speak to an international audience.

Tailoring can become a form of empowerment.

And fashion can carry a cultural story while looking firmly toward the future.

For Farhanna Pura, the journey to Times Square is therefore not an arrival.

It is another chapter.

From the tropical landscapes of Brunei Darussalam to one of the world's most visible fashion stages, NA FORRÉR will bring with it the textures of heritage, the confidence of the modern woman and a distinctly Bruneian vision of contemporary fashion.

In every garment, tradition meets transformation.

In every silhouette, heritage meets individuality.

And in every piece, Brunei tells its story to the world.
